MISSION

The mission of Boston Dance Alliance is to support the thriving dance community that invigorates greater Boston through a living and dynamic art form. Toward that end, Boston Dance Alliance provides to individuals and organizations services that raise the profile of dance, foster artistic quality, and enhance the effectiveness and vitality of its members.

SERVICES / PROGRAMS

The Directory: The Annual Greater Boston Dance Directory lists individual and organizational BDA members, and provides detailed descriptions of rehearsal and performance facilities, as well as studios and schools offering classes of all types.

Publications: E-newsletter, published monthly highlights upcoming major events, information on grants, includes intriguing interviews with dance professionals and those working with dancers, and a report from the Executive Director focusing both on BDA accomplishments and offerings along with comments on issues facing the dance community.

Website: Boston Dance Alliance Website (www.bostondancealliance.org) is the most comprehensive source of news about dance for professionals, students and audiences in the Greater Boston area. Members can use the ever-changing site to publicize classes, concerts, and other events free of charge. In addition, there is valuable information available on the members only page about press contacts, mailing lists, job information, and resumes of dance related professionals such as designers, production technicians, musicians and more.

Discounts: Boston Dance Alliance membership provides valuable discounts on performance tickets and related dance products and services.

Health: Health Insurance for Dancers: Boston Dance Alliance is one of the few service organizations in the country that offers health insurance to dancers. Through a partnership with StageSource,dance professionals can obtain comprehensive healthcare at lower cost than is possible for individuals.

Workshops: Boston Dance Alliance plans and implements a variety of Professional Development Workshops geared toward expanding the knowledge base of artists and others working in dance. These workshops are available to members and non-members.

Fiscal Sponsorship: The Fiscal Sponsorship Program offered by BDA enables performing artists and groups to accumulate the funds they need to make their artistic and career goals a reality. Sponsorship provides independent performing artists and groups [dance related] with: Eligibility to apply for most government, foundation, and corporate grants which require a 501 (c) 3, not-for-profit status; Eligibility to receive tax-deductible donations of money from individuals where 501(c) 3 status is necessary. In addition participants in this program will gain access to workshops focusing on both visions and plans for the future and the legal issues associated with forming corporations

Our Voice: In addition to these services, Boston Dance Alliance also serves as an aggregate voice for the Greater Boston dance community, representing dance in public conversations.
