Cultural Access Consortium

MISSION

Cultural Access Consortium (CAC), a 501c3 corporation, champions the belief that the arts must be accessible to all regardless of physical or cognitive abilities or financial means. CAC works in partnership with community members to provide cultural institutions with:

• Access technical support
• Access information and referral
• Outreach initiatives linking human services and arts organizations

PROGRAMS / SERVICES

CAC carries out its mission by working with community members to provide the following services and programs.

Technical Support Services for Cultural Institutions

• Coordinate programming for ASL-interpreted, audio-described, open-captioned events
• Conduct access awareness training for organizational staff
• Promote and market access programs and events
• Facilitate training workshops and seminars for audio describers, ASL interpreters and consultants, production/event staff
• Develop access plans that conform with organizational strategic plans, goals, missions
• Assist with grant writing and research

Information & Referral Services

• Online calendar of accessible events and programs
• Guidebooks for the design, implementation, evaluation of access programs
• Database of ASL interpreters, ASL consultants, and audio describers
• Referrals to companies that provide access-related equipment for rental or purchase
• Referrals to agencies that evaluate facilities for ADA compliance

Outreach Programs Linking the Arts and Human Services

• DAY TRIPS: Blind/low vision patrons have the opportunity to enjoy cultural Day trips outside Boston
• ON THE HOUSE: Musicians, actors, and other artists bring the arts to children and adults prevented from traveling to cultural organizations due to physical, medical, or transportation limitations.
